The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialists in Psychology or Neuroscience.
This position is responsible for providing basic research assistance using more than one genetic rodent model system and overall technical support for federal and foundation-funded projects. Staff will collaborate with other laboratories on the main Davis campus and be located in Sacramento. This person will be part of an interdisciplinary team that defines innovative outcome measures and testing basic research stem cell therapies in live genetically modified behaving subjects. The individual holding this position will assist in the goals of the lab to characterize novel models of deletions, duplications or triplications of the E3 ubiqutin ligase, a genetic cause of intellectual disability and seizure disorder. Successful candidates will also have 1) experience with preclinical genetic mouse models, 2) high level of knowledge of genotyping by PCR, and immunohistochemical staining, 3) skills in basic rodent husbandry, 4) behavioral testing of mouse models for learning and memory and motor abilities, 5) injection skills are required. Other essential qualifications include excellent rodent handling skills, experience with data collection, data processing, and statistical analysis of experimental data, computer skills using word processing (for writing experimental methods) graphics and statistical software, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and becoming key member of larger research team. This position also has the responsibilities of organizing tasks related to these work areas.
