The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) at the University of Arizona (UA) invites applicants for a senior level faculty position in indigenous health in the Department of Health Promotion Sciences. The UA’s MEZCOPH is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). It is a rapidly growing and dynamic college and a member of the Association of Schools and programs of Public Health (ASPPH). We are dedicated to promoting the health of communities in the Southwest and globally with an emphasis on achieving health equity through excellence in education, research, and service. The College has active teaching, research, and service programs and is home to several prominent university centers, including the Center of Excellence in Women's Health, the Canyon Ranch Center for Prevention and Health Promotion, the CDC funded Arizona Prevention Research Center, the Western Regional Public Health Training Center, the Center for Rural Health, the Global Health Institute, among others. The College is also a vital partner in multi-college (Medicine, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Nursing) and trans-disciplinary centers that include the Arizona Cancer Center, Arizona Respiratory Center, the UA Center for the Elimination of Border Health Disparities, among others. The University of Arizona has a vibrant American Indian Studies Program, and has a strong history of indigenous health research, with several federal research projects that address Native American health, including a Native American Research Center for Health (NARCH) and the Center for Indigenous Environmental Health Research. The university places a very high priority on Native American issues, with a University Office for Tribal Relations led by an Assistant Vice President who reports to the President.

Position Summary:

Health Promotion Sciences engages the community to translate science into practice to inspire and change the world. The mission of the Department of Health Promotion Sciences is to collaborate with communities in the southwestern United States in developing innovative responses to health challenges, and translating best practices globally. In addition to an undergraduate public health degree program and the MPH, the Department offers two doctoral degree programs, a DrPH in Family and Child Health and a PhD in Health Behavior and Health Promotion. The Department has a diverse group of faculty members who engage in teaching, service and research in the many different areas of health promotion and disease prevention. We are seeking a well-established independent investigator whose interests complement those of our Department and College. Candidates with interests and research portfolios in public health issues that affect indigenous populations locally, nationally, or globally will be considered. The faculty member for this position will be expected to work collaboratively with other university departments, state, tribal, and local health departments and health agencies, and national/international health organizations. Skill and content expertise areas in indigenous health are open.

Competitive applicants must demonstrate academic credentials appropriate for the rank of associate/full professor (tenured or tenure earning), including a record of extramural funding and publications in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to maintaining a funded research program, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses in indigenous health and to contribute to the research and service mission of the college.
