Once you are accepted into the HSHPS program, as a fellow, you will be required to attend/submit the following during/at the end of the program:

  • Conference Call: This one hour call will review the program guidebook, expectations, and any pending administrative obligations prior to the start of the Graduate Fellowship Training Program.
  • Orientation: This will be the first gathering for all participants. The amount of days of the orientation session varies from year to year and it is conducted in Washington, DC. 
  • Research/Field-Work Project: Fellows will be expected to work with their mentor to design and undertake a research project based on the mentor’s and fellow's research interests, experiences, time, and availability.
  • Weekly Online Lectures: In order to increase understanding of the Hispanic health issues and health careers, fellows will be expected to attend weekly online lectures.
  • Evaluations: Fellows will have to complete and submit three evaluation forms provided by HSHPS.
  • Project Timeline Chart: Fellows will have to complete and submit a Project Timeline Chart that summarizes the project(s), major tasks that must be completed for the project(s), and due dates. The chart helps mentors and fellows understand what is expected during the course of the program.
  • Abstract: Fellows will author an abstract which will summarize the research project(s). 
  • Research Paper: Fellows will author a research paper, which relates to minority health issues.
  • Presentation: At the closing session, fellows will present a formal PowerPoint presentation (collected by HSHPS) to colleagues, mentors, and HSHPS staff, summarizing their project(s) and experiences.
